CHEMICAL REACTION
A standard fine chemical process consists of one or several reactors to which raw materials are charged. The chemical reaction is controlled and measured to ensure a safe and efficient operation. At the end of the process, the solid product is usually separated from the liquid slurry in order to be dried. Drying is usually performed under vacuum to keep the temperature low and be gentle on the product. After drying, the product powder often needs to be screened to ensure the right particle size distribution.
CHALLENGES
Fine chemical processes commonly face several simultaneous challenges: tough chemical conditions (involving flammable solvents, hazardous raw materials, corrosive acids and bases), that demand accurate process control (for temperature, pressures, reaction times, etc), and must meet safety and containment requirements through the process and in the end product.
PROCESS EQUIPMENT
